McCain/Palin yard signs were surprisingly in abundance in front of so many rundown homes, trailers. Surprising, as the most consistent value of the Republican Party, especially since Ronald Reagan, has been the failed theory that a completely unregulated free-market, coupled with tax cuts for the rich, is of the most benefit to us all. Professional pickpockets call it the “bump and grab”. The pickpocket “bumps” the victim in a crowd, distracting his attention, while a partner then “grabs” the wallet. In politics, the victim is “bumped” by politicians claiming that they act in the name of faith and family values, while the victim is “grabbed”, denied health care, school loans, workplace safety, veteran’s benefits, equal pay for equal work. Let’s look at telling differences on the economic stimulus bill between the Democrat dominated U.S. House of Representatives version and the Senate version. Remember the 41 Senate Republicans are just enough, by one, to threaten filibuster, thus the House bill reflects a Democrat world view, the Senate Bill reflects Republican influence. My source: the Columbus Dispatch, 8 February 2009. The House bill allots $40 billion to assist unemployed workers losing health care benefits, the Senate, half that much. The House bill allots substantially more funds for college tuition Pell Grants, tax credits for higher education expenses. The Senate version substantially weakens Obama’s planned middle class tax cuts, instead the Republican influenced Senate supplies $30 billion in tax credits to those who buy new homes. Who can buy new homes? Not those who are most hurting, losing their homes and jobs. Those suffering most when this unregulated free market house of cards collapsed will not be helped. A tax credit on new home purchases benefits vulture speculators circling overhead that swoop down, buy your foreclosed home, with a substantial Republican granted tax credit, hold it long enough to hopefully sell it back to you at a profit later. The Ohio Senate race next year will have national import. Polls show all potential Democrat candidates leading Republican Party candidates. The Democrats have been able to pass health care for children ( S-CHIP) and the Lilly Ledbetter fair pay for equal work act thus far, both of which were opposed and/or vetoed during the last 8 years of Republican rule. When evaluating the values of the two parties, follow the money. Don’t be “bumped”. Brad Cotton 474-1837 To whom it may concern My name is Herb Hendrix. I am a retired electrician, also retired from the U.S. Air Force with almost nine years of active duty and eleven years of USAF Reserve time. I am proud I was able to serve our country. However, my reason for writing this letter is to inform Senator Obama and his staff of the very nasty and uncalled for treatment of the Pickaway Dems. The Pickaway Dems is a grassroots organization that was formed by 10 dedicated Democrats and is led by a young widow woman who is the most knowledgeable and capable person in the political arena here. We started with ten members in the aftermath of the 2004 Presidential Election, we now have one hundred fifty members and affiliates and are picking up more and more all the time. I would like to name some of the things we have done. We rent and consistently run an office in Circleville, Ohio. We are one of the few Democratic clubs that have a year round office and presence in the state. We offered to let the chair of the county Central Committee share space with us within our office and guaranteed volunteers to staff it. The chairperson declined our offer. In this county voters were unable to make contact with their Democratic officials or the party before we opened our doors, now they have a contact and avenue for voters resources. We sometimes are the only source of help for our local candidates who are many times not able to obtain help from the Central Committee chairperson or leadership. The Ohio Democratic party has turned a blind eye to the problems within this county and the candidates and voters are suffering because of it. Sherry Veazey, our leader has been asked by other county parties and support groups to speak to them about grassroots organizing and explain how we have done as a group to get Democrats elected state wide. Our Executive board is willing to speak and help in any county in the state and has done so very effectively. Our group is responsible for almost all the fundraising, phone banking, canvassing, lit. drops, and voter resources available in Pickaway County. We offer assistance getting voters to the polls, registering new voters, and assist the Board of Elections in finding poll workers so that the Democratic process continues here. We have donated large amounts of money to the county party and held many fundraisers including the largest political fundraiser ever in this county in August 2005 where we hosted 13 State Wide Democratic candidates in one event, including our now Governor Ted Strickland, Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner, Ohio Democratic Party Chairman Chris Redfern, State Treasurer Rich Cordray, Columbus Mayor Michael Coleman and many others. In addition to political matters we also help our community in various ways including collecting food for the local food bank, organizing Red Cross blood drives, fundraisers for needy Democratic families, coats for kids, Toys for Tots, the list goes on and on. In May our Central Committee seated a new chairperson who has indicated to us in a meeting with our President and Vice President that she wants our group to disband in order for us to be included in the county party political process. In fact she has informed the Obama area representatives to not have anything to do with the Pickaway Dems or any of their members. Our offer of assistance has been turned down several times by the Obama campaign. I find this divisiveness to be a blight on the local Democratic party and the party chair Cathy Worley in particular. The Pickaway Dems are ready to support the committee, the party and true Democratic Candidates. Now it is time for Cathy Worley and the Pickaway County Democratic Central Committee to come to the table and work with the leadership of the Pickaway Dems. It would benefit all the Democrats in the county. Herb Hendrix To Circleville City Council Dear City Council members I am writing this letter to ask the City Council and Mayor to consider allowing Jeremy Browning to replace Mr. Hess for the 4th Ward vacancy. He is a very responsible and reliable young person, wise beyond his years. Jeremy not only put himself through college while working full time he took on the responsibility of raising his infant daughter by himself since she was only six months old. He is intelligent, honest, and professional and be counted on to do the best for all concerned. I feel that since he garnered 165 votes from people in his ward in the election last fall and was legally eligible to be on the ballot, he would be the logical choice to replace the outgoing councilman. To allow others to “apply” for this seat would be like holding another election without the 4th Ward voters being able to participate and have a say in choosing their representative. The City Council should allow the wishes of the voters in the 4th Ward to prevail and make Jeremy Browning the Councilman for that seat. Concerned citizen Nancy Shollenberger OPEN LETTER TO CIRCLEVILLE CITY COUNCIL MEMBERS Dear Council members I am writing you today to urge the Council to install Democrat Jeremy Browning to the 4th Ward council seat left vacant by Mike Hess. I have known Jeremy and his family for many years and feel he is absolutely the best candidate for the job. Mr. Hess should not have been on the ballot to begin with in my opinion which would have left Jeremy running unopposed for the seat. Voters in the 4th Ward did vote for him and it seems only right that he be the one to step into that role and represent the citizens of that ward. I feel confident that Jeremy would be an asset to City Council and a champion for the folks in the 4th Ward. Sincerely Herb Hendrix Wishing Nancy a speedy recovery from her recent surgery ![]() OUR DEEPEST CONDOLENCES To the Neff Family On the passing of Terry Neff Our thoughts and prayers are with you.... Condolences to the Adkins family and to the Municipal Court .... ~ Rest in peace your honor~ .... ![]() March 26 It's been two years since you went away. I miss you so much Daddy. I will always be your little girl. Love Cindel ![]() HUGE THANKS To everyone who has emailed, called, and helped me out while I recover from surgery. (Especially the home cooked meals!) I love and appreciate you all! Sherry I am proud to say that Sherry Veazey is my campaign chairperson and a very good one. She and I share a deep sense of public service. When we see wrongs in the public arena, we do our best to right them. We don't seek refuge in cowardice. We share a common decision process regarding our actions in the public interest, "If it is the right thing to do, we do it. If it is wrong, we don't." That makes almost all decisions easy. We know that the course may not be easy, but we have broad shoulders. It has been gratifying that others have stepped forward to share the load in the quest to promote integrity in public office. All of the names are not publicly known, but, I can tell you that they comprise a group of which Pickaway County can be justly proud. Others should follow their example. The procedures which Sherry has initiated with regard to the the Pickaway County Democratic Party Central Committee and the Pickaway County Board of Elections are not related to my campaign. But, I am aware of much of the background for them and commend her for her public service in those pursuits. Right does make might! Those windmills will fall. Bring on those windmills. Bill Conner 7th Congessional Candidate Just a note thank everyone who signed my petition for County Commissioner. I appreciate your support and confidence in me. I promise I will work hard for our Democratic candidates in 2010 Sincerely Sherry 'Cares deeply about solving' problems This endorsement of William Conner was provided by Dan Saks of Clark County. He is president of Saks & Associates, a software training and consultant company. Most of us are very disappointed in our congressional representatives. They have let the Defense Department mismanage the Iraq war, done little to enhance our national security, left millions without adequate health care, failed to protect Social Security, eroded environmental protection and civil liberties and run up huge budget deficits. Dave Hobson has had many chances to address these problems, and has failed. He does not deserve another term. Bill Conner is a bright, caring man. He has given much thought to the problems our country faces, and he cares deeply about solving them. He will work to disentangle us from Iraq, shore up national security, eliminate the budget deficit, protect Social Security and preserve civil liberties. He will resist the corrupting influences of Washington. Give him a chance to represent us. Vote for Bill Conner. Enjoyed the event at Roundtown Cafe. Thanks! Brad Cotton From the Ohio Daily Blog Democrat is knocking on the door of the 7th Submitted by Anonymous on Mon, 12/03/2007 - 3:39pm. Bill Conner got 39.4 % of the vote against Hobson. That was the best showing by a Democrat in the 7th District since 1982. The typical Democrat percentage in the 7th is 26 - 28%. In second runs against the same incumbent, Democrats typically improve 6%. The last time a Democrat ran against an incumbent and then a new Republican candidate (as now) was in 1988 and 1990. Jack Spira got 26% against DeWine and then 38% against Hobson. 39.4% + 12% = 51.4% So Conner is knocking on the door. |
