Re: Bill Conner Opens Campaign Office for Congress in Circleville
Bill Conner, Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress from the Ohio 7th District, was in Circleville Saturday 1/19/08 for the opening the main office for his campaign at 212 S. Main Street across from the Pickaway County Court House. Circleville is centrally located in the 7th District. Conner's campaign manager, Sherry Veazey will manage the office with the help of volunteers who are Conner supporters and also members of the Pickaway Dems of which Veazey is President. The event was a lively affair attended by more than 25 supporters from around the District. After a strong showing in 2006, Conner told the crowd that prospects for winning in March and November were excellent. He got 40% of the vote in 2006. That was the best showing by a Democrat since 1982 and second best in over 40 years. Second runs by Democrats historically result in a 6% improvement, 12% when vying for an open seat as will be the case in 2008. Conner's web site ConnerForUS.com presents his qualifications and detailed positions on nearly 40 issues. This office will distribute Conner Campaign materials and also those of Democrats in other races.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Veazey will not seek Commissioners seat

Circleville, Pickaway Dems President Sherry Veazey has announced that she will not seek the office of
County Commissioner in 2008. Veazey took out and circulated a petition for Ula Jean Metzler’s (R) seat
earlier this year.
As for her decision not to run in 2008, Veazey cites the enormity of the issues and problems that face the
Citizens of the 7th Congressional District as the major factor in her decision.
“As Bill Conner’s campaign manager I took on a huge responsibility. I take that responsibility seriously
and will put all my efforts into helping him win that seat” comments Veazey.
Veazey has been President of the Circleville based group Pickaway Dems since December of 2004.
“I urge everyone who signed my petition to support Democrat John Schein on his 3rd run for County
Commissioner” she adds.
Veazey does not rule out the possibility of a future run for County Commissioner.

COALITION SAYS GENERAL ASSEMBLY SHOULD PASS BILL

Columbus, Ohio….. Ohioans for Healthy Families announced today that on Tuesday, December 11, it will submit more than a quarter of a million signatures from voters in all 88 Ohio counties to Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner in support of a bill to allow workers to earn up to seven (7) paid sick days per year. Locally, the Circleville based group Pickaway Dems worked with
the coalition to help educate the public about the need for paid sick days for Ohio's workers and their families and also circulated petitions here in Pickaway County.

Petition signatures will be submitted by the Coalition for Healthy Families, a non-profit statewide coalition representing over 180 organizations and individuals. Under Ohio’s “initiated statute” process, 120,683 valid signatures (as certified by the Secretary of State) will place the proposed law before the Ohio General Assembly early next year. If the legislature fails to enact the bill within 120 days, the Coalition will gather additional signatures to put the proposed law on the 2008 General Election ballot.

WHAT : PAID SICK DAY PETITION SUBMISSION NEWS CONFERENCE
WHEN : Tuesday, December 11, 2007, 12:00noon-1:00pm
WHERE: Ohio Secretary of State’s Office, 180 E. Broad St., Columbus

The United States is the only industrialized country in the world without paid sick days. 42% of Ohio’s private sector work force (about 2.2 million people) have no legal right to even a single paid sick day at their places of employment. When illness strikes them or their children, these workers (including 40% of middle income earners) must choose between taking care of their families and losing a day’s pay or, sometimes, even their jobs. The Ohio Healthy Families Act (HFA) would require companies with 25 or more employees to allow full-time workers to earn 7 paid sick days per year, and part-time employees to earn a pro-rated number. The bill also contains provisions to protect employers and prevent abuse.

In announcing the news conference, HFA campaign manager Brian Dunn said:

“When we kicked off this campaign on behalf of Ohio families
back in October, we predicted voters would overwhelmingly rally
to the cause. But their enthusiasm has surprised even us. In 3 short months,
we’ve collected more than double the number of signatures we needed, and
from across the political spectrum ---Democrats, Republicans and Independents
alike. Clearly, paid sick days is an idea whose time has come. We call
on the Legislature to pass this bill quickly and give the people what they want.”

At noon, Coalition volunteers will begin unloading petitions at Broad and E. 4th St. At 12:30pm, the news conference will take place outside Brunner’s 15th floor office.

Re: Conner announces for the 7th Congressional District

Beavercreek: Bill Conner of Greene County announced his candidacy for the 7th Congressional District in Circleville Saturday. He has taken out a petition to be on the March primary ballot and plans to file it within the next week.
Conner,a retired Major in the U.S. Air Force, traveled to Circleville to show his respect to Ohio's soldiers killed in the Iraq war. He participated in an event sponsored by "Eyes Wide Open" by reading names of the soldiers who have fallen in the Iraq war. The "Eyes Wide Open" event commemorated the fallen by displaying a pair of boots to symbolize each soldier killed.
Conner earned BS and MS degrees in Aeronatical Engineering from Purdue University. He brings intelligence documented by the maximum possible score (800) on the Graduate Record Exam (GRE) Mathematical Reasoning test.
" I have a record of demonstrated integrity, putting my career on the line many times in the interest of my country with absolutely no use of my position for personal gain. I will work in the interest of all people in an open, honest, forthright manner with no hidden agendas", said Conner.
"As an engineer, he is a system builder and problem solver who uses the engineering approach. He defines the problem, devises a solution, invites improvements from others, tests the proposal, refines it, developes an implementation plan and then cuts through the politics to make it happen." adds his campaign manager, Sherry Veazey of Circleville.
Conner's web site, www.ConnerForUS.com, has been open since early 2006 and presents his solutions to more than 40 national problems in great detail. He invites the voters to review it and give him comments. He reports that it has had over 60,000 visits to date. Conner garnered 39.4% of the vote in 2006 - the highest percentage for a Democrat in the 7th District in since 1982.

Re: Conner files petition for 7th Congressional District

Xenia, Bill Conner of Beavercreek filed his Democratic Primary petition with the Greene County Board of Elections today in his bid for the 7th Congressional District seat that Dave Hobson (R) currently holds. Hobson announced earlier that he will not seek re- election for this seat.
This is the second run for this office for Conner who feels that he has an excellent chance of winning this seat.
In 2006 Conner received 39.4% of the vote and won two of the eight counties - Franklin and Perry. This is the best showing by a Democrat in the 7th District since 1982. Most Democratic candidates have gotten from 26% to 28% of the vote. Second runs by the same Democratic candidate have typically resulted in a 6% increase when running against the same Republican incumbent. The result is much better when the Republican is not the incumbent. The last time that occurred was in 1990. Running against Mike Dewine in 1988, Jack Spira received 26% of the vote. Against Hobson in 1990, Spira received 38% - a 12% increase. With Hobson's retirement, the Republican opponent will not be an incumbent.
With a well established campaign staff and grassroots support in each of the eight counties in the district, Conner is optimistic about his chances of winning the primary.
Conner said, "I look forward to the 2008 campaign. My web site ConnerForUS.com will again present my detailed proposals on nearly 40 issues. I will discuss these issues and ask for voter input as I travel through the district.
