A Prayer on the Sixth Anniversary of the Invasion of Iraq
Let us join our hearts and minds in prayer.
Eternal Spirit, Author of Justice and Peace, hear our lament.
We have suffered as in our names suffering has been inflicted.
Our friends, members of our families and people whom
we do not know return to us broken in body and spirit, desperately
in need of healing, with pain so deep that we cannot imagine it.
Lord of us all, we have died as in our names killing has been done.
We mourn those known to us and those we do not know, those from our country and those of other lands.
We cry out at the injustice of seeing innocents savaged in our name.
We protest: All must be done to see this carnage end; all must be done to keep it from happening again!
Gracious and Holy One, we celebrate life.
We are thankful that we have been blessed so that we may be a blessing.
Help us to hear our Neighbor in her or his need and share our blessing freely.
Help us to climb to the very peaks of human endeavor, to look out beyond
our present day and to work toward a just and peaceful world where war is no more
and the human child and all of nature will live in harmony.
We ask this as people who humbly seek to be a faithful part of your Creation. Amen.
